Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) Nine, Edwards Detachment Officer in Charge Cmdr. Michael “HFM” Huntsman, left, presents a certificate to Cmdr. Michael “Squintz” Procelli as he congratulates Procelli for reaching the 1,000-hour milestone flying the F-35C Lightning II while on a training mission on Sept. 20, 2024 during Gray Flag at Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu. Gray Flag is an annual large-force test event that brings the Joint force together to test and evaluate multi-domain systems in a maritime environment, ensuring our nation’s warfighters are equipped with effective, interoperable systems that will help them deter aggression, protect our nation’s prosperity and security, and return home safely to their families. Only the second Naval aviator to reach the 1,000-hour milestone, Procelli previously flew F/A-18 Hornets before transitioning to the F-35C. Procelli was so focused on his mission that he was unaware he had achieved the milestone until Huntsman and other squadron pilots gathered around his jet to congratulate him upon landing.
