A local Lao worker wet screens soil during a recovery mission in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Oct. 29, 2024. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery team cautiously wet screen through the hard soil in search of clues to locate missing personnel lost during the Vietnam War. The DPAAs humanitarian mission has a significant role in the Department of Defense’s efforts to build partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world. There are currently 1,574 missing and unaccounted-for Americans from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Megan Ozaki)
