ANNVILLE, Pa. – Thousands of volunteers gathered at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery for Wreaths Across America Dec. 14. The opening ceremony conducted at the Pennsylvania Veteran’s Memorial featured the placement of honorary wreaths, and remarks from Acting Adjutant General of Pennsylvania, Brig. Gen. John R. Pippy; Pennsylvania Senator Douglas V. Mastriano (a retired U.S. Army colonel); a flyover of World War II era aircraft and the presentation of the Pennsylvania World War II Veterans Recognition Medal to a number of Pennsylvania’s living World War II veterans attending the ceremony. Upon conclusion of the ceremony volunteers spread out across the cemetery to place wreaths on veterans’ graves. More than 65,000 veterans are interred at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
