U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Van McCarty, adjutant general for South Carolina, attends a Wreaths Across America ceremony held at the Ft. Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Columbia, South Carolina, Dec. 14, 2024. This ceremony was one of several hundred events held across the United States for National Wreaths Across America Day 2024, a nonprofit initiative involving over two million volunteers and supporters who gather every year to remember and honor fallen service members and POWs, whilst also educating the public on the significance of freedom, nation, and sacrifice. McCarty participated in the ceremony on behalf of the South Carolina military Department, joining service members of each branch of the military, families, and all the guests in attendance.
