Cmdr. Jeanine Menze, the first Coast Guard black female aviator, retires after a distinguished career receiving honors during a special flag ceremony. The American flag was passed by a distinguished group of aviators—the nine African American women who followed in her pioneering footsteps, making up the “Tenacious Ten.” These women symbolize the countless lives Jeanine has touched, the legacy she has created, and the significant impact she has had on the Coast Guard. They embody the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and leadership that Cmdr Menze exemplified throughout her distinguished career. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Lt. Cmdr Scott Kellerman)
