A component of U.S. Navy F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets from Naval Air Station Oceana were staged at NAS Jacksonville in preparation to support the flyover honoring former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
The 30 Super Hornets flew into town throughout the day Tuesday, Jan. 7 and 21 of them departed the afternoon of Jan. 9 to perform the flyover. This special gathering of Navy fighters jets from across the fleet was in recognition of former President Jimmy Carter’s naval service and presidency. The team of fighter pilots conducted a 21-aircraft missing man flyover in his memory in the skies of his hometown Plains, Georgia.
The eight squadrons that participated in the flyover were the “Gladiators” of VFA-106, “Checkmates” of VFA-211, “Blue Blasters” of VFA-34, “Fighting Swordsmen” of VFA-32, “Rampagers” of VFA-83, “Gunslingers” of VFA-105, “Wildcats” of VFA-131 and “Jolly Rogers” of VFA-103.
