Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Richmond, Naval Hospital Jacksonville ophthalmologist and department head of ophthalmology, examines a patient’s eye, looking for signs of glaucoma. January is glaucoma awareness month and Richmond said, “Glaucoma is a serious disease and can lead to blindness. It’s important to get your eyes examined at least every two to three years, even without glasses.” Glaucoma risk factors include family history, high eye pressure, and thin cornea thickness.
