NEWPORT, R.I.— Associate Professor Lisa Kerr, Ed. D., left, and Operations Specialist 1st Class Harold Gomez, right, both members of the U.S. Naval War College’s (NWC) Wargaming department, facilitate a wargame during the college’s 13th “Wargaming 101” introductory course onboard Naval Station Newport, Jan. 15, 2025. Originally designed as a training medium for incoming faculty and staff, Wargaming 101 was reorganized to incorporate external organizations recognizing wargaming as a useful tool for analysis of national security issues. Today, the course offers value to a wide range of wargaming creators, contributors, and consumers through lectures, problem-solving activities, and relationship-building opportunities. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
