-Steel line entering draft tube from powerhouse
Original Turbine Unit 1-3 were commissioned in 1961 and are now 57 years into operation. Government engineers and scientists created a contractual partnership with Voith Hydro Inc. to develop two new turbine designs with fixed and adjustable blades to improve fish passage and reduce risk of oil contamination in the river. As a part of this project, the draft tubes shape was modified by using a method known as shotcrete. This included post installing reinforcing, roughening the existing concrete surface, and building up the new surface to its final shape. The modification to draft tubes has been completed on units 1, 2 and 3. An article was written and published by the American Shotcrete Association regarding this project, and it was recently selected infrastructure project of the year by American Shotcrete Association.
