405th Army Field Support Brigade - Europe & Africa

Two key players from the 405th Army Field Support Brigade took part in the U.S. Africa Command J4 Component Conference at Kelley Barracks in U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart, Germany, Feb. 11-13, led by Air Force Brig. Gen. George T.M. Dietrich III, AFRICOM’s director of logistics (J4).

The 405th AFSB’s deputy to the commander, James “Mac” McGinnis, and Jacob Spitler from the 405th AFSB’s Logistics Civil Augmentation Program Africa, took part in the AFRICOM J4 conference, which is an annual event that brings logisticians who support the continent of Africa together to discuss efficacy of previous logistics support operations, the intersection of intel and logistics, and overall improvements to logistics capabilities on the continent. This year leadership from the European Union, United Kingdom, Belgium and France also attended and discussed their current posture and logistics capabilities.

One of the key discussion points during the AFRICOM J4 conference was better visibility of commercial capabilities on the continent on Africa, understanding this is where the LOGCAP program can play a critical role. The 405th AFSB’s LOGCAP program and prime contractor are executing requirements daily and have commercial connections already established in numerous locations across Africa, which supports the ability to rapidly respond during a crisis.
