Minnesota National Guardsmen participating in the Norwegian Exchange had an opportunity to learn about Norwegian history at the Stiklestad National Cultural Center in Verdal, Norway, Feb. 17, 2025. Soldiers and Airmen visited the Stiklestad Church where it is believed to be the exact location that St. Olav fell in battle. They also had the opportunity to learn warrior skills used by the Vikings.
The Guardsmen are a part of the Reciprocal Norwegian Exchange, commonly referred to as NOREX, a partnership program whereby approximately 100 Minnesota National Guardsmen and 100 Norwegian Home Guardsmen visit the opposite country to train and exchange cultural understandings. This is the 52nd year the two nations have participated in the NOREX and is one of the longest running state partnership programs in the world.
