For Lt. Col. Nathan Whitfield, service has always been a calling, but finding the right balance between military and civilian life was just as important. A Lancaster, Pennsylvania native, Whitfield served in the Regular Army as a physician assistant, dedicating years to military medicine.
“While the active experience was great, I missed the civilian life,” Whitfield said and that is when he discovered the Pennsylvania National Guard. “The National Guard was a great fit for my civilian life,”
Now serving with the Medical Detachment of the 28th Infantry Division, Whitfield continues to use his medical expertise to support Soldiers while also maintaining his civilian career at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
The National Guard allows him to stay connected to military service while enjoying the flexibility of a dual life—one where he can serve both his community and his country.
