Skulls on display alongside a photo of a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery site at the largest forensic laboratory in the world, a DPAA facility located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). DPAA has been described as an organization that keeps one inviolable promise – that the fallen will never be forgotten. After more than 75 years, this promise was kept for another service member and his family. In December 2024, U.S. Navy Seaman 2nd Class John C. Auld, a Sailor who perished aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB 37) during the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor was honored and buried in Albuquerque, New Mexico, fulfilling DPAA’s mission to provide the fullest possible accounting for service members’ families and the nation.
