A burner cone, originally a two-piece component prone to failure from high temperatures, was redesigned by the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence inside Rock Island Arsenal-Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center. The team 3D printed it as a single, more robust piece using a stronger material, eliminating the previous weaknesses and withstanding the intense heat. Rock Island Arsenal-Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center develops, manufactures and delivers readiness solutions through conventional and advanced manufacturing processes for the U.S. Army and Department of Defense systems globally.
