Aviation Boatswain's Mate Airman Kevin Proback bolts down the jack staff in preparation for mooring alongside Macquarie Wharf pier. Tarawa is the first large deck ship to visit Hobart in more than six years. During the visit, Sailors and Marines participated in numerous Battle of Coral Sea commemoration events and received a warm welcome by the Hobart community. Tarawa and the embarked 11th MEU are on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Operating in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, the U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest of forward deployed U.S. fleets, with approximately 50 ships, 120 aircraft and 20,000 Sailors and Marines assigned at any given time.
