Military, civilian and contract personnel assigned to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research - Europe Middle East in Tbilisi, Georgia, converged in Tsinandali, located in the Kakheti wine region to conduct a 3-day strategic offsite. In addition to setting conditions and prioritizing lines of effort for the USEUCOM and USCENTCOM AORs, personnel engaged in team building activities to enhance es sprit de corps and morale.
In her opening comments, COL Barbara Bujak, Director, WRAIR-EME, emphasized the importance of the expanding role of WRAIR-EME, especially in the Middle East, as the unit successfully entered into an additional agreement with Kuwait and working on executing others in Jordan and Bahrain. Combatant Command Surgeons in both EUCOM and CENTCOM now seek and rely on the expertise of WRAIR-EME researchers dedicated to medical readiness of expeditionary U.S. Service Members.
This strategic offsite resulted in an improved understanding of the unit’s mission to inform on force health protection across the spectrum of multi domain operations through identification and characterization of medical threats, as well as building and sustaining strong relationships with Georgian and regional partners to enhance global health security.
