Preparing for the unpredictable, limiting the unforeseen and controlling the unexpected…Dr. Dan Frederick, population health officer assigned to Naval Hospital Bremerton, has been an instrumental force in the nation’s third largest fleet concentration in helping lead prevention and response efforts against a number of public health threats this decade alone, from the annual [cold and] flu season to a nearby measles outbreak to a spate of possible mumps cluster and a meningitis infection threat. Frederick is a retired Navy captain with years of experience in public health, preventive medicine, and environmental health within his area of responsibility of Navy Region Northwest. His specialty focuses on optimizing and supporting Force Health protection and readiness by providing epidemiologic - the branch of medicine that studies epidemics and epidemic diseases - services for Navy and Marine Corps members and dependents by providing a variety of products and services in information management technology; occupational and environmental exposures; reportable medical events; and diseases, conditions and infections. As the Military Health System recognizes March 30, 2025, as MHS National Doctor’s Day, we acknowledge Frederick and other doctors for their commitment as a ready medical force ensuring Navy and Marine Corps assets are a medically ready force (Official Navy photo by Douglas H Stutz, NHB/NMRTC Bremerton public affairs officer).
