Norfolk Va. (Apr. 2, 2025) – Thirty-four newly hired Military Sealift Command Civil Service Mariners (CIVMARS) received an orientation of fleet replenishment oiler USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO 188), Apr. 1, as apart of MSC’s New Employee Orientation (NEO) program.
The NEO orientation tour provided invaluable information, Operations Officer Larry J. Gonzales said. “Familiarizing new personnel with the ship’s layout, systems, procedures, along with where they are going to live and eat while working aboard a Navy vessel, is crucial for safety, efficiency, and overall mission readiness, as it helps them to better understand their roles and responsibilities in advance to being assigned to a service ship.”
Once assigned to a vessel, new crew members can expect a demanding but rewarding experience, involving specialized training, shipboard routines, and a strong emphasis on teamwork and discipline, Gonzales said.
