At contract 104 located northeast of LaPlace, LA, sand hauling to EL. 2.5’ is complete and this portion of the levee has been connected to neighboring contract 105 limit of work. Clay is also being placed on the protected and flood side of the berm. In addition, vertical wick drains and horizontal strip drain installation is ongoing along the alignment.
Also, nuclear density testing was recently conducted. This technique is used in construction to measure the density, moisture and inner structure of the soil. The test verifies if the soil conditions are suitable to support structures in a quick and efficient manner.
