A U.S. Marine role-playing as a child tries to steal a piece of equipment from an Australian soldier during Talisman Saber 2013. More than 40 Australian soldiers and U.S. Marines are actively participating in Talisman Saber by role-playing as different characters in a mock village the Australian forces discovered while on patrol. The goal of the role-playing exercise is to train service members to establish a successful relationship with a community not accustomed to foreign aid. More than 28,000 U.S. and Australian personnel are participating in Talisman Saber, a biennial exercise designed to enhance multilateral collaboration in support of future combined operations, humanitarian assistance and natural disaster response.
