Southerland, a 16-year-old youth, is receiving medical treatment for cancer in Winston-Salem, has always dreamed of becoming an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician in the military. Due to the effects of his fight against cancer, Southerland’s heart was left very weak. Because of this, he will never be able to pursue his intent on joining the military.
