BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Soldiers from Headquarters, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, flew into Camp Blessing on April 15.

Upon landing, the Soldiers, many dirty from weeks on mission, ascended a small hill into the main area of the camp to honor the memory of two fallen comrades: Army Sgts. Edelman Hernandez and Christopher Wilson.

Both served in "Attack" Company, 1-32 Infantry, Hernandez as team leader for 2nd Platoon and Wilson as a rifleman and machine gunner for 3rd and 2nd Platoon.

Hernandez lost his life, April 11, while crossing a river on his way back from a mission.

Wilson was killed, March 29, when his platoon engaged the enemy at their base in the Korengal Valley.

Two pairs of boots, with rifles, dog tags and helmets stood in memory of the two fallen Soldiers, each with a framed portrait in front of it.

As the troops arrived, a bagpipe version of "Amazing Grace" was played as friends of the fallen Soldiers spoke of their excellent leadership and cried, mourning their loss.

"We mourn their passing, but we celebrate the way they left," said Army Lt. Col. Chris Cavoli, 1-32 infantry commander. "These men died as Soldiers."

After prayers led by the chaplains and memories recounted by friends of the fallen, each Soldier payed final respects.
