BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – A deputy supply officer serving with Combined Joint Task Force-82 will be driving a new 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck he won in the annual Braxton Bragg Chapter of Association of the United States Army raffle when he returns to Fort Lee, Va.

Capt. Jaren Paul Powell, a Washington, D.C., native, bought the winning raffle ticket from Sgt. 1st Class David Moore.

"I've always felt being a member of a team includes supporting programs and activities within the Army community," said Powell. "They (AUSA) are one of the voices of the Army to help with things Soldiers depend on like medical care and retirement. It helps the Army family."

The self proclaimed "die hard" Washington Redskins fan and freelance sports photographer said he enjoys touring Civil War sites and will take advantage of his new wheels to explore the rolling hills of the Petersburg Battlefield in Virginia.

"I chose the slate metallic Toyota Tacoma because of its dependability and reliability compared to the rest of the vehicles," Powell explained as only a supply officer could when choosing among the 10 vehicles offered. "It will save on delivery charges for moving and hauling."

Powell will receive his new truck when he redeploys to Fort Lee and said having the winning ticket was unexpected.

"You never expect to win or have something like this happen to you," Powell said. "You kind of wonder if anyone ever really wins raffles and clearing house drawings. I was just supporting the program."
