TARIN KOT, Afghanistan – U.S. Security Force Advisory Team members receive their Marne Combat Patch at the ceremony conducted at Forward Operating Base Mirwais, Afghanistan, Jan. 17.
The team comprised of U.S. Soldiers from the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team out of the Texas National Guard deployed to Afghanistan, in Nov. 2012. The team is led by Maj. Timothy Redhair and senior noncommissioned officer Sgt. 1st Class Charles Bloom.
The Marne combat patch was presented by the Col. Douglas C. Cardinale, commander of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. At the conclusion of the ceremony the commander spoke to the Soldiers about the significance.
“The combat patch you are wearing now symbolizes a lasting commitment and selfless service in defending our nation’s freedom. Only a few Americans have earned this patch that you received today, wear it proud,” Cardinale said.
The patching ceremony was conducted to officially recognize the SFAT deployment into a combat zone.
