BALAD, Iraq -- Responsibility for command and control of medical logistics in Iraq transferred between two distinguished battalions here Jan. 2.
The 226th Medical Logistics Battalion, from Miesau, Germany, transferred authority for medical logistics operations in Iraq to the 32nd Med. Log. Bn. from Fort Bragg, N.C. during a ceremony held at the Eastside gym.
The 226th Med. Log. Bn. provided Multinational Corps-Iraq with the medical supplies it needed to save lives. The battalion provided storage and distribution of more than 6,000 units of blood, manufactured more than 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses and repaired medical equipment during the past year.
Medics and combat lifesavers have the expectation that when the call comes for medical personnel, the materials they need will be in their bags, said Lt. Col. James Signiaco, the 226th Med. Log. Bn. commander.
"These Soldiers are the ones who made that happen," he said.
