EDINBURGH, Ind. — The 38th Infantry Division’s 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team changed leadership in a ceremony held at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind., Feb. 10, 2013.
Indiana Army National Guard Col. Ronald Westfall, Mooresville, Ind., took command from Col. Jerry Hadley, Noblesville, Ind.
“We’re saying good-bye to a wonderful commander,” said Indiana’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, Bargersville, Ind. “Every commander wants to leave an organization a little better than when they started, and I think Jerry has done that.”
Hadley’s new position will be at the Indiana National Guard Joint Force Headquarters as director of operations and training.
Westfall has filled a number of positions within the brigade since its formation in 1994 but said being selected as the new commander was unimaginable.
“I am truly humbled to lead this brigade and fortunate to follow in Col. Hadley’s footsteps,” said Westfall. “I cannot think of a greater honor than to lead the Soldiers of the 76th Infantry Brigade. No one is more important to me than the Soldiers of this brigade.”
Westfall inherits the brigade as it is about to deploy two battalions to Africa and said his focus will be on them along with the soldiers’ families and making sure the brigade is ready for any other missions asked of it.
