BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Task Force Baghdad soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 156th Armor Regiment discovered an insurgent safe house in western Baghdad, Dec. 13, on their first day in a new area of operations. Two individuals were detained.
The site of the safe house was in the vicinity of one of Udai Hussein's farm houses. The unit made their discovery at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The patrol also discovered two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices being prepared for detonation. The vehicles contained nearly 1,000 pounds of explosives, including Italian-made anti-ship bombs, three 155-millimeter artillery rounds, 300 pounds of ammonium nitrate, as well as a weapons cache of rockets, mortars and anti-tank weapons.
Also confiscated was a cache of medical supplies and industrial chemicals.
