KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Carrying troops to various forward operating bases and delivering essential supplies to ground troops manning the countless outposts in Regional Command-South, the 2nd Battalion (Task Force Corsair), 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, provides vital support to overall operations in the region.

Aircrews from Company B (Flippers), 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 82nd CAB, are responsible for carrying out these types of missions on a daily basis using CH-47 (Chinook) helicopters.

"Everyday we deliver pallets of bottled water, meals ready to eat, medical supplies and mail to the troops [at] various combat outposts in the RC-South area," said Sgt. Aaron Moss, a crew chief with Co. B. "I love what I do and the missions we execute."

Their missions support the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div. and other Coalition forces in the area, said Moss.

"These re-supply missions provide personal satisfaction when successfully executed," said Chief Warrant Officer Cesar Lirians, a CH-47 pilot. "Spending seven years as an infantry Soldier, I can relate to the missions our ground troops are executing and providing support for them is rewarding on so many levels."

As the summer season begins and temperatures start to rise over 100 degrees in RC-South, daily water and food delivery is important for ground troops in these locations to stay mission effective and focused.
