FORT HOOD, Texas - Various gospel artists performed for the Fort Hood Community as part of the United As One Concert Tour at Abrams Physical Fitness Center Friday.
The event was hosted by Black Entertainment Television comedian Shuckey Duckey and featured Zacardi Cortez, Vashawn Mitchell, Kierra Sheard and James Fortune.
The United As One Concert Tour is an armywide show brought to Fort Hood by Army Entertainment and the Fort Hood Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, said Jade Coleman, a marketing specialist with DFMWR.
The show is an inspirational and uplifting experience the whole Family could enjoy, Coleman said.
Dressed in their Sunday best, fans stood in line as they waited for the doors to open. Once inside, some embraced loved ones as others took to the snack line.
As the concert began, a message of encouragement echoed in the lyrics of each song.
“We go through problems, everybody goes through problems every day. You never know what somebody else is going through,” Cortez said.
Throughout the night, fans were encouraged to keep going on their journey of life.
“It’s good to be an encouragement,” Cortez said. “It’s good to come and encourage you all to keep going and don’t give up because we need you all.”
As the event came to a close, Cortez said there was not only a sense of affirmation, but also a sense of appreciation from the artists towards the troops.
“I am grateful to you guys,” Cortez said. “You all are really doing your thing out here, and I appreciate that.”
