KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Sgt. Ashley Bell with the 102nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as the photographer for 3rd ID command group. Bell, a Picayune, Miss., resident, arrived in theater, Jan. 9, 2013.
“Working at the division level as a command photographer definitely keeps me on my toes,” said Bell. “On my previous deployment I held many different jobs and positions and on this deployment it’s more specific and an extremely delicate position.”
This is Bell’s second deployment which included a tour to Iraq. Her mission during this tour is to provide public affairs support to the 3rd ID and its command group.
“I serve because I love the United States of America and I enjoy my freedoms!”
As we begin to celebrate Women’s History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Bell had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.
“I think every woman, no matter age or race, should work hard and go for what you want,” said Bell. ”If you don’t try, you will never know what you can accomplish.”
When Bell returns home, she said she is looking forward to spending time with her family and enjoying the little things in life.
