DOSHI DISTRICT, Afghanistan – As a Cavalry Scout at the Combat Outpost Khilegay in Northern Afghanistan Spc. Cody Stover has distinguished himself as an integral part of the team in Northern Afghanistan
As a part of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team,3rd Infantry Division based out of Fort Stewart, Ga., Spc. Stover’s Platoon Sergeant, relies on Stover to ensure the safety of his fellow troopers while on patrol.
“He is an ideal soldier; he never complains and consistently excels at his job, and is soldiers you can always count on. As a testament to this you just have to look at all he has accomplished”, said Sgt. 1st Class James Crowe,3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment,.
Since his arrival in August 2012, Spc. Stover has qualified as an expert during basic rifle marksmanship, earned the German Marksmanship Proficiency Badge, received Gold in the Schützenschnur, and completed a college level course.
When he redeploys, Stover plans to attend the U.S. Army Ranger School and work on his promotion to sergeant, so he can continue to serve his country as a leader in the Army.
“I have no doubt he’ll have a great Army career, and will make an outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer,” Crowe said.
Spc. Stover receives morale support from his mother Lisa Mallory-Stover and his brother Zach Stover of Portland, Maine who eagerly await his return. A native of Gorham, Maine, Specialist Stover attended Gorham High School where he excelled as a four year letterman in baseball, and a first team all-state football player.
