    8th SOK captures IED facilitators

    URUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The 8th Special Operations Kandak commandos captured two improvised explosive device facilitators and numerous improvised explosive device components in Tarin Kowt district, Uruzgan province, March 28.

    Commandos led the targeted-raid operation, advised by coalition forces and assisted, and demonstrated 8th Special Operations Kandak’s capacity to capture a high value target responsible for orchestrating IED attacks throughout the district.

    The Afghan raid led to the detention of two individuals who were responsible for facilitating and employment of IEDs.

    “The operation went really well, said an Afghan commando team leader. “I am really proud of what we accomplished to help secure our country and protect our people.”

    While conducting personnel searches, the commandos recovered four radio-controlled IED receivers and one IED transmitter. Additionally, they found one assault rifle and six kilograms of opium.

    “This successful operation was groundbreaking for the 8th Commandos’ operational capability, extending their sphere of influence outside of village clearance operations,” said a coalition forces officer.

    The high level of proficiency, with which commandos execute their missions, demonstrates government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s concern and commitment to the Afghan people and specifically the people Tarin Kowt district.
