    Under Secretary of the Army

WASHINGTON - David M. Krzycki says his promotion to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army didn't come about by merely his own accomplishments, rather it was possible because of the enduring support from his family, friends, and the extraordinary soldiers he's served with for the last 25 years.

Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal praised Krzycki, his current aide-de-camp, for his dedicated service in defense of the nation. He recognized his critical role as a proven combat leader as he promoted him to lieutenant colonel during a ceremony conducted before family members, friends, and colleagues at the Pentagon.

"The critical positions within the Army that Dave (Krzycki) has excelled at speak volumes about his professionalism, work ethic, and character," Westphal said during the ceremony.

Krzycki recognized the support of his parents, Walter and Marge Krzycki, and highlighted their enduring support.

"I did not do this on my own. This day is not about me, but it is about everyone in my life," Krzycki said after being promoted. "It's a group celebration, a team victory, and a very humbling experience to say the least."

During the ceremony, Westphal explained how the Army carefully selects its officers, and that this accomplishment is testimony to Lt. Col. Krzycki's leadership potential, as well as the support from his family.

"Dave is a true warrior that always places the mission first, never accepts defeat, and lives the Army values," Westphal said. "He is...an American soldier."

Krzycki concluded the ceremony by recognizing his former commanders for their role in his professional development and thanking his current colleagues.

"I am fortunate and humbled to work with a great group of professionals and count myself lucky to stand with you as we face our daily challenges," said Krzycki.

Krzycki is a native of Sturgis, Mich., and 1987 graduate of Sturgis High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications Law from Western Michigan University in 1996.

Lt. Col. Krzycki has served as a platoon leader, company commander, battalion operations officer, brigade operations officer, and regimental executive officer in a number of storied Army units. In his current role, he serves as the aide-de-camp to the 30th Under Secretary of the Army, the honorable Joseph W. Westphal.
