CAMP BLANDING, Fla. - The Regional Training Institute is continuing its tradition of professionalism as Lt. Col. William LeFevre assumes command of the 211th Regiment during a ceremony at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center.

Camp Blanding is a world-class site where active duty, National Guard and Army Reserve forces can provide training to varying-size units from squad level to brigade size. It is also the home of the 211th Regiment RTI, winners of 11 Institute of Excellence awards since 2008.

During the change of command ceremony, the assistant adjutant general for Florida and commander of the Florida Army National Guard, Maj. Gen. James D. “Don” Tyre, thanked the former commander, Col. Grant C. Slayden for his accomplishments and expressed his confidence in Lt. Col. Lefevre.

"There is no doubt in my mind that the strength of the Army, Florida National Guard and the 211th, is in the ranks of the dedicated soldiers that fill them,” Tyre said.

“I really want to thank the unit, and the soldiers of the 211th," said Slayden. "We are very proficient in our training tasks, and have to set the standards for the more than 2,100 soldiers that come through here."

Col. Slayden has served more than 25 years in the Florida National Guard, dating back to 1986, as a graduate of Officer Candidate School Class 27. He would go on to hold numerous positions showcasing his leadership skills throughout the state of Florida. During his three year tenure as the commander of the 211th Regiment, they earned seven top accreditation awards. In addition, the RTI was recognized as an "Institute of Excellence" by General Robert W. Cone, commanding general TRADOC.

"I'm grateful for the FLNG leadership - for the trust and confidence to lead an organization with such a crucial mission," LeFevre said. "Through these doors walk our national treasures. Our job is to help them get ready.”

Lt. Col. LeFevre, coincidently, is also a graduate of OCS Class 27. He was commissioned in 1988, and has consistently demonstrated his leadership skills while rising through the ranks. Most recently, LeFevre served at the Joint Force Headquarters in the Joint Director of Military Support Office, as the Counterdrug Coordinator for Florida and the Deputy J5, Strategic Plans and Policies Directorate.

"Our Army values will be just words, if they don't make up the fabric of our every being, as trainers and mentors. We have the responsibility to uphold our military's belief system and impart it to the next generation", said LeFevre.

It is with this ethos, that he intends to maintain the high level of quality training and to not only meet the standards, but exceed expectations.
