JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Sgt. Maj. Scott T. Booth relinquished the duties as the senior enlisted advisor of Marine Aircraft Group 26 to Sgt. Maj. Christopher L. Edmonson at the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204 hangar during a relief and appointment ceremony, March 28.
The event also doubled as Booth’s retirement ceremony for 30 years of honorable service.
“It is an absolute thrill and privilege to participate in this ceremony to acknowledge Sgt. Maj. Booth’s sacrifice and commitment to our country,” said Col. Christopher Seymour, MAG-26 commanding officer. “Sgt. Maj. Booth is a fantastic example of a warrior first, Marine leader, a father and a husband.”
Booth’s 30-year-military career has placed him in many different locations around the world including Okinawa, Korea and Afghanistan.
Booth has been the MAG-26 sergeant major since 2010.
Beginning his last speech as the MAG-26 sergeant major, Booth started by thanking the leaders who helped him during his role as sergeant major of MAG-26.
“I sincerely thank all of you for the support and the guidance that you give me every day,” said Booth. “Anytime I could go in and talk, you all certainly helped me with anything I didn’t know and I’m truly thankful for that.”
Keeping with the famous saying, “Behind every successful man is a good woman,” Booth went on to thank his wife, Ginger Booth, for her continued support during his many different changes of stations and deployments.
Booth took a moment to also show his gratitude to the Marines under his command.
“The Marines that you see behind me work extremely hard to keep the MV-22B Osprey moving, and they do a great job, whether it’s the crew chiefs, the maintainers, or the support personnel, they contributed to this fantastic program.”
Stepping in for Booth is Sgt. Maj. Christopher Edmondson, arriving to MAG-26 from his position as the senior enlisted advisor of MAG-49 in Warner Robins, Ga.
“I want to join in with everyone in thanking and congratulating Sgt. Maj. Booth, for the things you’ve done and the guidance you have provided for the Marines of MAG-26,” said Edmondson.
Edmondson then went on to address the Marines in his new command.
“I want to say to all of the Marines of MAG-26 that I am grateful to be your sergeant major, and as I told you earlier in the week, I am here to work with you, to give you 110 percent, and to do the right things for you Marines and for the Marine Corps.”
