KANDAHAR AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – A general of the 82nd Airborne Division visited with Soldiers from the Alaska National Guard May 25 who have been providing support for his paratroopers of the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

Brig. Gen. Rodney O. Anderson, deputy commanding general – support for Combined Joint Task Force – 82 met with Soldiers of Task Force Grizzly and Task Force Denali at the Kandahar Air Field Dining Facility and thanked them for their accomplishments.

Anderson noted that Col. R. Stephen Williams, commander, 207th Infantry Brigade and U.S. National Command Element (South) and his Soldiers did not only have the mission of managing KAF, but their responsibilities within the region were equivalent to those required to run a state.

"I would go as far to say you have really been responsible for a state, if I take a look at the size of RC (South) and RC (West)," he said.

"You have done absolutely a magnificent job," said Anderson as he also praised the Soldiers for their support to the 1st Bn., 508th PIR in southern Afghanistan.

"There was never a doubt in my mind that the [1st Bn., 508th PIR] would not be taken care of by your support elements," he said. "You have exceeded all expectations and then some."

Anderson then made a reference to the reconstitution that took place last month when the 1st Bn., 508th PIR brought more than 700 paratroopers and their equipment out of the field for refit and had them back out in the field within four days.

"The only reason we were able to do that is because of the support you provided," Anderson said.

Anderson then shook hands, passed out coins for achievement, and took a group photograph with the Soldiers.
