FORWARD OPERATING BASE SHANK, Afghanistan – U.S. soldiers from Company B, 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted mine-resistant ambush-protected recovery vehicle operator’s training during a one-week course here, April 8 – 12.
Qualified mechanics, who graduated from the H8 Wheeled Vehicle Recovery Course, trained and operated the MRV in day and night conditions.
The MRV can recover other min-resistant ambush-protected vehicles in the event they become inoperable on the battle field.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Troy Hope, a Waycross, Ga., native, and the officer-in-charge of the Service and Recovery Shop for 703rd BSB, attended the course in Texarkana, Texas, and successfully trained six Task Force Maintain Soldiers.
“Completing this operator’s course allows the soldiers to operate the vehicle allowing their companies to utilize the MRV,” Hope said. He added the MRVs enhance combat support on the battle field.
During the course, soldiers were trained on recovery methods such as boom and hoist operations, as well as operation of the driver vision enhancer system. The DVE provides the soldiers with night-vision capability while driving the heavily-armored recovery vehicle.
Pfc. Dennis Quiocho, a wheeled vehicle mechanic with Co. B, used the DVE for the first time during this course and was impressed by the system. “The best part of the course was using the DVE system while driving the MRV at night,” he said.
