COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Capt. Lacey Hamilton, from Baltimore, Md., wins the Women's Bicycle Open. She completed the 10 kilometer loop in 20-minutes, 26-seconds, beating the second place racer by 11 seconds.
Hamilton, an intelligence officer, received a traumatic brain injury and other wounds in a vehicle rollover during her 2010 deployment to Afghanistan. Following her recovery, Hamilton completed a Master of Arts degree, has competed in numerous long distance races such as the Army 10-Miler and the Baltimore half-marathon. She won a bronze medal in the 2012 Warrior Games in cycling.
“I was determined to not let my injury get in the way of living my life,” she said. Hamilton also credits the outstanding support and encouragement from her husband for her success.
Additionally, Hamilton will compete in the Warrior Games track and field event.
