SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT soldier of the week is Sgt. Marianne Jones, operations noncommissioned officer, Third Army/ARCENT air mobility. Jones, who has been in the Army eight years came to Third Army/ARCENT from 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Jones, the daughter of two retired Navy service members, said growing up with military parents involved plenty of traveling. She lived all over the world growing up, but wherever she lived she has learned to embrace diversity.

“I loved traveling while growing up. I believe living in so many different places makes a person very versatile,” she said. Since joining the military, she spent a total of 26 months deployed; serving two tours in Iraq. Jones said she is proud of her accomplishments as a Soldier and of her family.

The proud mother of three said she also finds gratitude in helping people.

“I love helping people,” said Jones. “There’s just something about helping a person reach a goal and being a part of it that brings me joy.”

Q: What are your current military/professional goals?

A: My goal is to be a recruiter. I want to be able to groom a person from the start of their career, by targeting a person’s goals and placing them where their strengths are so that the Army could profit from having quality soldiers that appreciate what they do.

Q: What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?

A: I want to have completed my degree in Physical Education and be an influence to schools putting more emphasis back into physical development for kids.

Q: Besides being a soldier, What did you want to be when you were younger?

    A: An emergency response coordinator.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a soldier?

    A: Helping people.

Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

A: Someone to talk to, shelter and a means of rescue.

Q: If you could spend an hour with anyone, who would it be and why?

A: I would spend it with Walt Disney. I believed him to be such a dynamic person, versatile in his ideas. I would love to know his interpretation of the future; what he fathoms it would be like in years to come.

Q: Where is your favorite place to vacation?
A: Home. Growing up, my parents spent a lot of time away so being home with my parents and spending time together is priceless to me.

Q: What was the best birthday gift you ever received?
A: I returned home from an 18 month deployment on my birthday.

Q: If you could attend any live event, what would it be?
A: I would redo my high school graduation day. I would have looked down first before stepping up to receive my diploma.
