CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Learning Resource Centers are facilities spread throughout Marine Corps Installations worldwide, seven facilities aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune provide users with the opportunity to learn about subjects important to their professional and personal lives.
Provided through the College of Distance Education and Training, Learning Resource Centers provide consistent computer access with printers. Some facilities are open six days a week and facilitators can see as many as thousands of Marines a month.
The centers contain workstations for Marines and other common access card holders to access Marine Net and take courses such as annual training or a variety of other courses that encompass a Marines everyday life through interactive audiovisual online courseware.
Facilitators help Marines with any issues navigating the site and proctor tests.
Having honest proctors when Marines are testing at the conclusion of some courses is very important said Charlene Whittington, a Learning Resource Center facilitator and proctor. Much of the materials Marines learn through Marine Net are taken before a deployment and some teach about heavy equipment and vehicles Marines may use, understanding the materials and safety precautions can help Marines avoid or survive dangerous situations.
Other than military training, Marine Net covers broad subjects through their courses to prepare for general professional and information technology certifications among others. The courses also feature classes about day-to-day issues, such as how to handle anger or stress and financial management.
Learning Resource Centers have something for every rank, said Whittington. Employees at the facilities see Marines throughout their careers and see them develop into leaders, she added.
PME/OPME courses needed for promotions such as Leading Marines, Corporals', Sergeants' and the Advanced course distance learning curriculums are also available through Marine Net. The courses teach how to lead Marines at every level and war fighting.
