    218th Brigade Combat Team assumes command of 205th RSCA

    KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army troops and coalition forces witnessed the 205th Regional Security Assistance Command transfer of authority from the 41st Brigade Combat Team to the 218th BCT here June 2.

    The 218th BCT, from South Carolina, recently served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle. Now, the 218th BCT has taken command of the Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix VI, mentoring and training of Afghan National Security Forces.

    "We look forward to continuing the great work that Phoenix VI has accomplished," said Army Col.

    William C. Cannon, incoming 205th RSAC commander. "My pledge to both of you is to help the Soldiers of the 205th 'Hero Corps" and the forces of the ANA and ANP, achieve goals in support of the country," he said in his address to ANA Maj. Gen. Rahmatullah Raufi, 205th ANA Corps commander and Army Col. Gregory Batts, deputy brigade commander. "To all the Soldiers, we're one team, and we must approach it in that fashion to get it done," he continued.

    "This mission was the most difficult, but most rewarding of my military career," said Army Col. Simsundareth Tan, outgoing 205th RSAC commander.

    "The 205th Corps has very good Soldiers, [they are] doing a very good job, and I am very, very pleased with Colonel Tan," said Raufi. "Colonel Cannon has much experience; [he is a] proficient and outstanding Soldier, our Soldiers are very pleased and happy with him. I have confidence in all you guys."

    "To the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the 205th, I could not have accomplished the mission without your hard work, attention to detail and sacrifice," said Tan as he expressed his thanks to his command team and members of the 205th RSAC.
