Third Army/ARCENT Public Affairs
SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the week is Sgt. 1st Class Cragg L. Mickens, Third Army/ARCENT supply and services operations noncommissioned officer. The Mississippi native joined Third Army/ARCENT from Fort Benning, Ga. and has dedicated more than 15 years to the U.S. Army. Like many soldiers, Mickens has multiple overseas deployments, participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Iraqi Endurance. Mickens said he is always focused on becoming a better NCO and a better leader. He also said the key to being a great leader is to understand the weakness of his soldiers and building on them individually. “I payback by paying forward, I know many people have helped be become the NCO I am and I want to share that discipline with soldiers because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” said Mickens. “I motivate myself to read regulations and I encourage junior soldiers to practice this until it becomes habit. I believe applying a small amount of your time each day can make a huge difference in your Army career.”
