ALP overcome Taliban ambush, kill 4 enemies of Afghanistan
KUNDUZ PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Afghan Local Police killed four enemy fighters and wounded three more enemies of Afghanistan during a failed Taliban attack on an ALP compound in Chahar Darreh district, Kunduz province, May 31.
The 40 enemy fighters threw a grenade over the wall of the ALP outpost and attacked the police with small arms and rocket-propelled-grenade fire. Using the grenade blast as a distraction, an enemy fighter attempted to breach the front entrance with an improvised explosive device (IED) made from 82mm mortar rounds.
The ALP reacted and returned fire quickly, shooting the fighter before he could detonate the IED.
“Our ALP stood their ground and responded to the Taliban attack very effectively,” said Chahar Darreh ALP Director CPT Nassir. “This event is very significant because it provides an example of how proficient, disciplined, and brave our ALP forces are in the face of a larger enemy force. The insurgents have failed again to realize that our ALP is a legitimate force that is well prepared to protect our district.”
The ALP took the IED to the Afghan National Army Special Forces compound for reduction.
No civilian casualties or structural damage were reported during this engagement.
Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by supporting rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence to enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
