CHILLICOTHE, Ohio –To the citizen soldiers of the National Guard, the support of the local communities and community organizations are important for them to complete their missions.

Two of these groups were honored recently for their work by the Commanders of the Ohio National Guard’s Chillicothe based 1194th Engineer Company and the Tarlton based 811th Engineer Company.

Those groups are, Rolling Thunder(r) Inc. Chapter 3 based out of Chillicothe and the band, “Stages” based out of Laurelville.
Both groups recently gathered to do a presentation ceremony on April 26, 2013 at the South Bloomingville Tavern.

The ceremony was used to recognize and acknowledge the hard work of “Stages” and the South Bloomingville Tavern’s staff participation in an earlier fundraising event. The event was requested by Rolling Thunder(r) Inc. Chapter 3.

The proceeds from that fundraiser were used for different purposes. They included sending care packages overseas for Soldiers, donations to local county service offices to serve veterans whom need a little extra assistance, and donations to both the 811th’s and 1194th’s Family Readiness Groups.

The groups have a connection to each other that runs back a few years. Rolling Thunder (r) President Chad Wolf explained.

“We have worked with the 1194th in the past. And we know that any donation to the FRG helps out with the families and the deployed members, and that's where we wanted the money to go,” Wolf said.

Capt. Michael Barnes and Capt. Thomas Race, Commanders of the 1194th and 811th respectively, each presented the groups a Commander’s Coin and a Letter of Appreciation to thank Stages and their wives for their dedication and hard work in raising money at the June Veterans/Military Benefit in 2012.

“It is groups like Rolling Thunder (r) and Stages that remind us why we do the things that we do. It feels good knowing that there are people out there that care for our troops,” Barnes explained.
The groups are preparing for another benefit fundraiser June 7 and 8.
