    76th Operational Response Command

PHOENIX – United States Army Reserve soldiers from the Western Information Operations Command were honored during a welcome home ceremony following a nine-month mission in support of the Regional Computer Emergency Response Team, Southwest Asia at the Barnes Reserve Center here June 8.

The deployed Warrior-Citizens were part of Detachment 52, which provided computer network defense for the Department of Defense activities throughout Southwest Asia, this included network security, incident response, cyber threat analysis, identifying and mitigating malware and viruses.

Families of the soldiers were also recognized with flowers, along with thanks from one of Arizona’s Congressmen, David Schweikert, who recognized that Army families play a part in the huge task of managing chaos at home while their loved ones are deployed.

Arizona State Representative Justin Olsen reflected on what it means to be a free country and the strength of our Military.

“Why do we have such strength?” asked Olsen “It’s because of the attributes that have been demonstrated by individuals like yourselves. These attributes of love of country, love of freedom, selflessness, bravery and heroism.”

“I want to express my gratitude and my thanks for the sacrifices that you have made, for the sacrifices of your family, to continue that patterned that we have inherited from our founding fathers, to preserve freedom to protect our country and to honor our friends and family here at home,” said Olsen. “Thank you for your service.”

The Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen Award Program was created in 2004 to acknowledge service abroad by soldiers in the Army Reserve and consists of a personalized, encased American flag, a yellow Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen flag, an Army Reserve soldier lapel set and a specially designed commemorative coin.
