TARIN KOT, AFGHANISTAN - Corporal Leroy Granado, a combat medic with 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Texas Army National Guard, is currently serving with Combined Team Uruzgan at Multinational Base - Tarin Kot, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Granado, a native of Alpine, Texas, and a 2009 graduate of Alpine High School, arrived in theater in November 2012. Granado has served in the military for five years and this is his first deployment.
Many soldiers have been away from their families for important holidays, and with Father’s Day approaching, Granado had a few words for his father, Leroy and grandfathers, Alex and Chon Jr.
“Thank you for always believing in me and supporting me in everything I do, and teaching me to be the man I am today,” Granado said. “You and mom have shown me the definition of unconditional love. I love y’all and I’ll be home soon. To my God kids, Ezequiel Hartnett , and Zoey and Jason Melendez, I’m proud to be your Godfather.”
Granado is currently working with a Security Force Assistance Team to advise Afghan National Police officers. He is scheduled to return to his unit in El Paso, Texas, in the next few months.
