SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. - A dorm singles pool party was held here, June 11.

The event was a joint effort between the Chapel, Shaw AFB Rising IV and the Dorm Council.

The event consisted of music and swimming to create a good time, and the Chapel also provided everyone with a free meal.

Dinner included hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks as well as desserts for everyone who showed up to the event.

Senior Airman Michael Blackmon, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management journeyman, headed and promoted the event, while Airman 1st Class Sohail Sayeed, 20th Equipment Maintenance Squadron armament systems specialist, Vice President of the Dorm Council assisted Master Sgt. Nicholas Cataldi, 20th Fighter Wing Chapel superintendent with grilling.

“It is always good when we are able to give back to the airmen,” said Blackmon. “I think my biggest take away from the pool party is a conversation I had with two guys I met there. They both told me that they have been here for about eight months and this was the first time they had gone out of there room to participate in an event like this and thanked me for putting this together because they had a good time. It is little moments like that make me realize the importance of organizing events for airmen and why I love doing it.”

Over 60 Team Shaw members showed up to the event.

“The dorm party was really fun,” said Airman 1st Class Dante Daniels, 20th Security Forces Squadron entry controller. “It was good to see old and new faces together having a good time.”

The groups from different squadrons, old and new members showed up, ate together, communicated and cooled off from the South Carolina heat together, whether it’s with people they have known since they arrived here or just met.
