Water survival training reduces fear, raises self-confidence and ensures recruits and Marines are able to survive in water. November Company is scheduled to graduate Marine Corps recruit training Aug. 16, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, participated in their basic water survival qualification June 17, 2013, at the recruit training pool on Parris Island, S.C.

Since Marines are amphibious by nature and expected to operate in aquatic environments, recruits learn basic water survival skills, and the qualification is a requirement to graduate training. November Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 16, 2013.
