MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – Marines and families with Marine Wing Headquarter Squadron 3 attended a change of command ceremony for the squadron aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., June 21.
Lt. Col. Michael Tyson, the out-going commanding officer for the squadron and a Lancaster, Pa., native, relinquished control of MWHS-3 to Lt. Col. Shawn Budd, the on-coming commanding officer and a Seattle native.
“I feel humbled, proud and thankful that my tour with this command has been a successful one,” said Tyson. “We have come together … and have continued to do so while accomplishing our missions here aboard the air station. We’ve been conducting things differently than other squadrons in order to build even greater unit cohesion and camaraderie, through physical training and briefs after, ensuring Marines get to have an important message delivered to them while having a good time.”
He went on to describe that MWHS-3 is scattered throughout the installation, but his Marines, not the systems within the unit, are the driving force behind the successes they have enjoyed.
Budd has high hopes for the squadron’s future.
“I’m excited and honored to serve these Marines as their commander,” said Budd. “During my tour here I’m going to ensure that I capitalize on the committed and engaged leadership that is already here in the squadron, and build upon it.”
With Budd now in control of this prestigious squadron, business resumes for the unit as they continue to support the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, its missions and its Marines.
