FORT McCOY, Wis. – Pfc. Edward Davila Walker, representing 973rd Quarter Master Company from Ceiba, Puerto Rico, said he is also proud to represent Puerto Rico at the 2013 Army Reserve Best Warrior competition at Fort McCoy, Wis.

Excelling and winning at his qualifying competition in Puerto Rico, Davila Walker with only 14 months in service is the lowest ranking soldier in the competition. Davila Walker was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his performance.

“I was told about the ‘Best Warrior’ competition by my supervisor and after looking into what the competition consisted of and qualifying events I found it very interesting,” Davila Walker said. “I like to be tested and give my all, I was told it was very demanding and I liked that so I began the process of training to qualify and be able to compete in the Army Reserve Best Warrior.”

Davila Walker said playing basketball in high school and participating in boxing matches gave him the endurance, resistance and stamina he needs to be successful here.

A native of Humacao, Puerto Rico, Davila Walker works as a cashier for Walmart. He would like to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and join the Reserve Officer Training Corps, using his degree and training with the goal of one day becoming an officer or warrant officer in the US Army.

“My dad tried hard to get into the military and he couldn’t so I always wanted to join and I always felt it was a completely different life style that I already lived so I stopped studying and decided to join the U.S. Army,” Davila Walker said.

“Being here competing makes my wife, family, unit and my home town proud,” Davila Walker said. “I have a lot on my mind because I am representing my home of Puerto Rico, everybody is counting on me and I’m going to give it my all here.”

Having this opportunity gives soldiers a great feeling of accomplishment and pride to represent their unit and strive for bigger greater levels in their military careers.
